Volleyball Goes 1-4 at Regis Tournament

Weston, MA ---The WPI volleyball team went 1-4 at this past weekend's season-opening Regis Tournament.  The Engineers gave head coach Leo Fahey his first collegiate coach victory with a 3-1 victory over host Regis.  The Crimson and Gray were on the short end of decisions to fellow NEWMAC squad Wheaton (3-2), 2006 NCAA Tournament participant Mount Ida (3-0), city rival Worcester State (3-1) and MCLA (3-2). 

Junior Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) and sophomore Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) were named to the All-Tournament team.  Croteau dished out an eye-popping 161 assists while Holmberg paced the team with 48 kills and 17 aces.  Senior Kate Woodman (Fairfield, CT) chipped in with 45 kills, 44 digs and 13 aces and Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) led all players with 53 digs. 

WPI will be back in action this week with away matches at Simmons and Mount Ida on Tuesday and Wednesday before hosting the City Tournament beginning at 10am on Saturday in Harrington Auditorium.
