Westfield State Looks To Defend Men's, Women's Crowns In Hosting 2008 MASCAC Cross Country Championships Saturday
Buzzards Bay, Mass. -- Westfield State College will be looking to defend its respective men's and women's titles on Saturday, October 25th when the Owls will host the 2008 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass. The men's 8K championship race begins at 11:00 a.m. EDT, while the women's 5K title run follows at Noon EDT.
Westfield State claimed the 2007 MASCAC men's crown with a team score of 46 points, placing all five of its scorers in the top 15 individually. Worcester State, led by 2007 MASCAC Runner of the Year Forest Wilbur, finished four points shy of the Owls as the runner-up with 50 points, while Massachusetts Maritime (81 points) was third in the final team standings. Wilbur, who covered the course in a winning time of 27:03.9 last fall, has already copped two MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades this fall.
On the women's side, Westfield State raced to the 2007 conference championship with a team score of 45 points, as the Owls placed four individuals in the top 10 along the way. Bridgewater State was second with a team score of 60 points, while Salem State (64 points), led by senior Marybeth Inman's runner-up performance time of 20:15.7, finished in third place overall.

Directions to Stanley Park are as follows: Take the Mass Pike (90) to Exit 3 (Westfield). From the North and South take Hwy 91 to the Mass Pike, then Exit 3. Take a right off of the exit and go South on Hwy 10/202 to the center of Westfield. Go West (Right) on Route 20 (at the CVS) until you reach Lloyd's Hill Road (at the blinking yellow light.) Take a left. continue up the hill until you reach Western Avenue. Turn right on Western Avenue. Stanley Park is a half-mile down the road on the left. Parking is available at the West entrance (second gate).
