Worcester State swept visiting Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon to open up MASCAC play and with the triumph in game one, head coach Dr. Dirk Baker also earned his 300th career victory.
Baker reached the 300 win mark in his 13th season as head coach of the Lancers and has the most wins and highest winning percentage in Worcester State history. In eight of the past ten seasons, Worcester State won 20+ games and qualified for the NCAA tournament in 2002 and 2005 as the MASCAC regular season and postseason champion. Under Coach Baker, the team has won 5 ECAC playoff games, 10 MASCAC Tournament games and is the first to lead Worcester State to an NCAA tournament baseball win. Worcester State's ranking under Baker peaked in 2003 when Worcester State ranked as high as No. 16 nationally.
For Baker's 300th win, Joey Lucier (1-2) tossed six strong innings allowing just two hits while he fanned four and walked just one batter. The Lancers 12 hit attack was paced by Ryan LaPrade who went 3-for-3 with three plated runs and TJ Magnell.
