Buzzards Bay, Mass. --  Massachusetts Maritime senior linebacker Ryan Howley was named as the New England Football Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Saturday evening for his efforts in the Buccaneers' 31-14 victory over Worcester State.

Howley, a native of New Fairfield, Conn. and a graduate of New Fairfield High School, recorded eight total tackles (seven solo), three sacks for losses of 27 yards, 5.5 total tackles for losses of 31 yards, two forced fumbles, a pass break-up, quarterback hurry and returned a fumble recovery 11 yards for a touchdown in the triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which stands at 2-2 overall and 1-0 in NEFC Bogan Division play.

Howley leads the Buccaneers with 38 total tackles (27 solo) over the first four contests of the season, as nine of his 27 tackles have been for losses totaling 39 yards.  He becomes the second Massachusetts Maritime player to win an NEFC Player of the Week accolade this season, as sophomore Nathan Sherr (Lynnfield, Mass.) was the league's Offensive Player of the Week on September 13th after rushing for a school-record 325 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-27 victory over MIT.
