The Bridgewater State Bears Field Hockey team is the top head-to-head finisher among the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference after the completion of the 2015 season schedule.
Bridgewater State competes in the Little East as their automatic qualifier conference. The Bears finished seventh in the LEC standings with an 8-11 record and a perfect 5-0 against fellow MASCAC schools.
Three Bridgewater State field hockey student-athletes earned LEC All-Conference honors. Senior forward Brittney Field (Hubbardston, Mass.) was named to the second team, while junior midfielder Brittany Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) and sophomore defender Janet Maher (Mansfield, Mass.) garnered second team honors.
Field set career highs with seven goals and three assists for 17 points in 19 games for the Bears. Two of her seven goals were game-winners.
Cullinane paced the Bears with ten goals and 22 points in 2015. She is tied for eighth in the Little East in goals and ranks 11th in scoring.
Maher appeared in 19 games this season and made 18 starts as she recorded three defensive saves. Maher has five defensive saves to go along with a goal and an assist in 37 career games.
By winning the MASCAC regular season title in field hockey, the Bears secure points towards the Howard C. Smith Cup which is given every year to the MASCAC institution that compiles the most points based on the placement of each of its programs competing in the 15 league championships.
