PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The leading scorer for the Plymouth State University’s men’s ice hockey team this past season made a successful professional debut last weekend in the East Coast Hockey league.

Senior Chris Chambers (Crofton, Md.), who was named Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Year earlier this month, signed an amateur try-out (ATO) with the Johnstown (Pa.) Chiefs of the ECHL last week, and made his pro debut last Friday against the Reading Royals.  Chambers saw limited action but finished the game with a goal and an assist to help Johnstown to a 7-2 victory.

The former Panther forward registered his first professional point on a second-period assist when his shot was deflected into the top right corner of the net.  He followed with his first career goal midway through the third period, converting a nice crossing pass from a teammate. Chambers was also in the line-up the following night but did not score in Johnstown’s 4-1 loss to the Wheeling Nailers.

“We are thrilled to have Chris representing Plymouth State in the East Coast Hockey League,” said PSU head coach Brett Tryder.  “He had a great career as a student-athlete at PSU and it will be exciting, for all of us, to follow his professional career.”

Chambers led the MASCAC in scoring this season with 18 goals, 27 assists and 45 points in 27 games.  He is a finalist for the 2010 Joe Concannon Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England playing at the D-II/III level. Chambers finished his collegiate career third on PSU’s all-time scoring list with 117points (58 goals, 59 assists).
