Matt Correia Named New Salem State Head Men's Soccer Coach

Salem State director of athletics & recreation Peggy Carl is pleased to announce that Matt Correia of Daniel Webster College has been named the new head men's soccer coach at Salem State, effective August 1, 2017, and will begin when his tenure at Daniel Webster is completed.   

"To be able to land a coach of Matt's caliber to lead our men's soccer program is tremendous." stated Carl.. "He has the experience, both as a talented coach and as a relentless recruiter to provide a truly exceptional experience for our men's soccer student-athletes.  I have every confidence in his ability to put Salem State men's soccer back on the map not only in the MASCAC, but across New England.  He has had a great deal of success and is passionate about coaching at Salem State University.  We couldn't be more excited to have Matt join us."  
  
Correia, who led the Eagles for six seasons, built a highly successful program during his tenure at Daniel Webster. The two-time New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Coach of the Year, led the Eagles to three straight NECC titles, and three straight NCAA Division III Tournament berths, which included the school's first tournament win in the program's history this past season.

As head coach, Correia compiled an impressive 70-39-7 (.603) record over his six seasons, while coaching 26 all-conference selections, including the New England Collegiate Conference top goalkeeper four times, and the conference player of the year, once. 

"I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Salem State men's soccer program and extremely happy to be joining the Salem State community.  Salem State is a wonderful place that I am quite familiar with, dating back to my time as a player at UMass Dartmouth.  I would like to thank director of athletics, Peggy Carl and the entire search committee for believing in me and for granting me this opportunity.  I look forward to what lies ahead with the men's soccer program, as we strive to be role models on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. "

A native of Dracut, Mass., Correia is a 2010 graduate of UMass Dartmouth where he played four seasons of varsity soccer for the Corsairs while serving as team captain his junior and senior years. In addition, Correia has several years of experience working youth camps and clinics and is a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma recipient.
