Salem State Nabs Number One Seed in the MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament
The Salem State Vikings nab the number one seed in the 2017 MASCAC Men's Soccer Tournament which begins on Tuesday, October 31 with the quarterfinal round of games.

The quarterfinals begin with third seed Worcester State hosting Westfield State and Framingham State entertaining Bridgewater State both at 7 pm on Tuesday. The winner of Framingham State/Bridgewater State will face top seed Salem State on Friday, November 3 at 7 pm while second seed Massachusetts Maritime hosts the winner of Worcester State/Westfield State also at 7 pm in the semifinal round.
The winner of both semifinal games will face off on Sunday, November 5 at the highest remaining seed for the tournament title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
The Vikings earned the top seed and a first round bye after going undefeated at 7-0 during the conference schedule. The team was led by freshman Mayele Malango who ended the regular season first in goals with 16, total points at 41 and game-winning goals with four. Chris Jimenez was solid in goal, leading the league in save percentage (.844), goals against (12) and goals against average (0.92).
Grabbing the other first round bye and the second seed in the tournament is Massachusetts Maritime. The Buccaneers were 4-3 in league action. Adam Crawford led the team in points with 10 on four goals and two assists while teammate Mike Prunchnik led the league in saves with 112, second in save percentage (.803) with a 1.79 goals against average.
Worcester State is up next in the third seed. The Lancers tallied a 4-3 record during MASCAC play. Leading the way with 20 points is Bryan Brasil who finished the season with nine goals and two assists. His nine goals were fourth-best while points were fifth-most in the conference.
Landing the fourth seed is Framingham State. The Rams were 4-3 during the league schedule. During the regular season, Isaac De Souza tallied the second-most goals with 14 and points with 31. He also assisted on three goals and had four game-winners.
Closing out the tournament field with the fifth and sixth seed are Bridgewater State and Westfield State. The Bears ended the conference clip with a 3-3-1 record. Filipe Gomes led the team with 19 points on seven goals and five assists while leading the conference with 91 total shots. The Owls tallied three wins during the league season. Alex Kraver closed out the regular season with 42 saves, 1.44 goals against average with four wins on the year.
Last season, top seeded Worcester State defeated sixth seeded Fitchburg State 4-2 for the MASCAC Tournament title and the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
