Four Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships March 10-11 in Naperville, IL on the campus of North Central College.
Samantha Richner of Bridgewater State, Ben Sattiewhite and Annie Woolley of Fitchburg State and Sam Weeks of Worcester State will able be making the trip to the NCAA Chamionships after qualifying in the top 17 for women and 15 for men in the country for their event.
Richner is making her second straight appearance at an NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship meet. Last spring, she earned All-American honors with an eighth place finish in the high jump at the DIII outdoor championships. She is seeded 14th in the high jump. She recorded her qualifying and BSU school-record mark of five feet, seven inches (1.70 meters) at the season-opening UMass Boston Invitational back on December 3rd.
Richner also holds the BSU outdoor record for the high jump (5'6.5"/1.69m) and the indoor mark in the pentathlon (3,195 pts.).
Sattiewhite makes his third straight trip to the Indoor Championships, once again qualifying in the high jump. He is seeded 10th in the event with a top clearing of 2.07 meters (6' 9.5"). He cleared that mark on February 4th at the UMass Darmouth Indoor Classic.
At the 2016 NCAA DIII Indoor Championships, Sattiewhite finished 12th overall in the high jump with a mark of 1.98 meters (6' 6").
Woolley is making her first appearance at the NCAA Championships. She qualified fifth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.82 seconds. She achieved that time only a few days ago at the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet which broke the Fitchburg State school record in the event.
Rounding out the field is Weeks who is attending his first indoor championship. He qualified as the 10th seed in the weight throw with a top distance of 18.25 meters (59' 10.5") at the DIII New England Indoor Championships back on February 17th.
