BRIDGWATER STATE HOLDS OFF SALEM STATE, 63-61
IN MASCAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

WESTFIELD, MA, March 1, 2008 - No. 1 Bridgewater State held off No. 2 Salem State, 63-61 in the championship game of the 2008 MASCAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Bridgewater State College.

The Bears improved their overall record to 22-4 as they now await the announcement of the NCAA Division III Championship bracket on Sunday night. Bridgewater State, which is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and the first since the '85-86 season, earned the automatic qualifier for the tournament by virtue of winning the conference championship.

Bridgewater State has now won eight strait games and fifteen out of their last sixteen. Since losing their opening game to Wentworth, Bridgewater has an impressive 14-game winning streak at home.

Salem State (21-6), the second seed in the tournament, will await word on whether they qualify for the national tournament as an at-large selection.
