WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State College senior forward Andrea Wasuk (Lenox, Mass.) has been selected to the CoSIDA (College Sports
Information Directors of America) ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women's basketball first team.
Wasuk was a college division first-team selection in District I of CoSIDA, which encompasses New England, New York and five provinces in northeast Canada. The college division is comprised of both Division II and Division III colleges.
As a first-team selection, Wasuk is now eligible for All-America academic honors. There are eight districts throughout the United States and Canada.
"This is an outstanding honor for Andrea," said Westfield State athletics director Richard Lenfest. "To be recognized as one of the best student-athletes in our district is quite an accomplishment."
The nomination criteria is based on both academic and athletics excellence. Wasuk is a business management major who owns a 3.78 cumulative grade point average.
On the hardcourt, she has led the Owls to their best start in school history. Westfield State is 17-3 overall and 8-0 in the Mass. State Conference heading into their Feb. 7 home game vs. Salem State.
Wasuk was a first-team all-conference selection in 2008 and a first-team pick in 2007. She leads the Owls in scoring (14.9 ppg.) and rebounding (6.0) this season, and led the team in both categories during her junior and sophomore seasons. She has 1,266 career points, which ranks fifth on Westfield's all-time list.
