Bridgewater State Grabs Top Seed in the MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament
After a thrilling victory to claim the MASCAC regular season title, the Bridgewater State Bears grab the top seed in the MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament which starts on Tuesday with the quarterfinal round.

Starting the tournament on Tuesday will be third seed Framingham State hosting sixth seed Worcester State at 7 pm while fourth seed Fitchburg State entertains fifth seed Salem State also at 7 pm. The winner of Fitchburg State/Salem State will face top seed Bridgewater State at 6 pm on Thursday, May 4. In the other semifinal, the winner of Framingham State/Worcester State will play second seed Westfield State at 7 pm.
The winner of the two semifinal contests will meet on Saturday, May 6 at the highest remaining seed to determine the MASCAC Champion and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
With a perfect 7-0 record in conference play, Bridgewater State earned the top seed in the tournament. The Bears were led by the duo of Melissa Renauld and Victoria McDonough who sat in the top five of the MASCAC in several categories. Renauld finished the regular season with 68 points on 46 goals and 22 assists while McDonough netted 65 points on 37 assists and 28 goals.
Sitting in the second spot with the other first round bye is Westfield State who ended the MASCAC season 6-1 in league action. Alanah Melanson was solid in goal for the Owls, leading the conference in save percentage (52.1), second in goals against (70) and goals against average (8.35) while also earning four wins and making 76 saves.
Framingham State is in the third seed and were 5-2 in conference play. In her first year with the Rams, Grace Gamache netted 44 goals and six assists for 50 points while also gathering 33 draw controls, 16 ground balls and five caused turnovers.
Grabbing the fourth slot is Fitchburg State. The Falcons ended the regular season 4-3 in MASCAC play. Ali Laferriere led the team with 44 goals and 11 assists for 55 points. She also tallied the third-most draw controls in the league with 57 and added 25 ground balls.
Filling out the tournament field in fifth and sixth is Salem State and Worcester State. THe Vikings had three conference wins on the season. Courtney Smith led the Vikings with 40 goals and 11 assists plus 33 ground balls, 28 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers. For the Lancers, who had two conference wins, Angelina Sutherland was first on the team with 62 points on 23 goals and 39 assists. She also gathered 43 ground balls, 59 draws and caused 22 turnovers.
Last season, Bridgewater State claimed the MASCAC Tournament Championship in a thrilling 11-10 overtime victory over Westfield State to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
