CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – University
of Massachusetts Dartmouth junior cornerback Shaquille
Brummitt (Brookline, Mass.) was chosen as the prestigious New
England Football Writers Association Division II-III Golden Helmet
recipient this afternoon at the weekly luncheon held on the campus
of Harvard University. Dartmouth College quarterback Dalyn
Williams was voted as the Division I honoree.
Highly decorated, Brummitt was also named to the D3Football.com
Team of the Week, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)
Division III Northeast Defensive Player of the Week, and the
Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic (MASCAC) Defensive Player
of the Week for his performance at Bridgewater State on Friday,

Award since DaVon Fuller (Washington, D.C.) was selected
after intercepting four Worcester State passes on Oct. 19, 2013.
Brummitt recorded a career-high three interceptions and broke up an additional pass in a 37-10 conference victory over the Bears. The Brookline, Mass. product stopped three consecutive second-half drives to preserve the victory. The defensive back returned his interceptions for a combined 20 yards. Brummitt also registered a tackle.
The Corsairs (3-3, 2-2 MASCAC) produced five interceptions, two
blocked punts, including one returned for a touchdown, a blocked
field goal, and a fumble that resulted in a safety at Bridgewater
State. The five picks are the most by an UMass Dartmouth
defense in the past 12 years. Classmate Diego
Hebra (Concord, N.H.) was selected as the ECAC Division III
Northeast Rookie of the Week after registering a team-high nine
tackles, a pass breakup, a blocked punt, and a 29-yard touchdown
stemming from a blocked punt.
UMass Dartmouth is ranked among the Division III leaders in several
categories, including blocked kicks (2nd, 6), turnovers gained
(8th, 17), passing yards allowed (16th, 138.5), turnover margin
(16th, 1.67 tpg), team passing efficiency (18th, 89.56), and passes
intercepted (19th, 9).
The Corsairs will return to action at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 18, when UMass Dartmouth travels to Worcester State University (3-2, 1-2).
