MASCAC Baseball Bracket

WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers have claimed the top seed for the 2015 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament which begins on Thursday, April 30 with the first round, then continues with the quarterfinals on Friday, May 1, followed by the semifinals on Saturday, May 2 and concludes with the championship on Sunday, May 3.

Joining the Buccaneers with a first round bye is second seed Salem State. Third seed Worcester State will host sixth seed Fitchburg State at 3 pm on Thursday while fourth seed Framingham State entertains fifth seed Westfield State at 3 at NEBC in Northboro, Mass.

First seed Massachusetts Maritime will host the winner of Framingham State/Westfield State Friday at 3 pm while second seed Salem State will host the winner of Worcester State/Fitchburg State in the quarterfinals which then becomes a double elimination tournament. Play continues Saturday at top seed Massachusetts Maritime at 9:30 am then finishes Sunday with the championship game at Commodore Hendy Field in Buzzards Bay at 11 am with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Finishing the MASCAC regular season 10-4 for the top seed in the tournament, Massachusetts Maritime earned a share of the regular season title for the first time in 33^rd years. Logan Sullo had a strong freshman campaign for the Buccaneers with .484 (30-62) with seven doubles, six triples, a pair of home runs, 17 runs scored and 16 RBI and registered an .889 slugging percentage and a .573 on-base percentage to close out the regular season schedule.

Landing the second seed for the tournament, Salem State also was 10-4 in conference play for another share of the regular season title. 2014 MASCAC Player of the Year Richard Fecteau closed out the year first in doubles (18), second in the conference in batting average (.397) and fifth in RBI (27).

Grabbing the final share of the MASCAC regular season title is Worcester State with a 10-4 conference record and the third seed in the tournament. Zach George led the Lancers with a MASCAC best runs scored (41), fourth best league batting average (.383) and third most in stolen bases (16), doubles (12) and triples (3).

Framingham State finished the regular season with a 7-7 mark to earn the fourth seed in the tournament. Zack Kirby was solid on the mound for the Rams with a MASCAC best 89 strikeouts with a 1.61 ERA which is the third best in the league while tallying five wins on the year.

Rounding out the tournament field is Westfield State with the fifth seed and Fitchburg State in the sixth slot. The Owls finished the year with six conference wins. Danny Dimatteo led the Owls with a .385 batting average with 11 doubles, five triples and 22 RBI. The Falcons are led by pitcher Kyle Cutler who led the MASCAC in ERA (1.09) while tallying 41 strikeouts and four wins.

During the 2014 MASCAC Tournament, top seeded Worcester State earned the conference automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament with a 5-3 win over second seed Salem State.
