Mass. Maritime's Velzis, Westfield State Burnett Named ABCA/Ralwling-D3baseball.com All-Americans
After an outstanding season, Brett Velzis of Mass. Maritime and Dan Burnett of Westfield State were named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and d3baseball.com All-Americans.
After an outstanding season, Brett Velzis of Mass. Maritime and Dan Burnett of Westfield State were named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and d3baseball.com All-Americans.
After winning MASCAC Player of the Year, Velzis earn dual All-American honors. Velzis played in 39 games, setting career-highs in batting average (.433), on-base percentage (.541), home runs (11), doubles (13), RBI (56), walks (28), and slugging percentage (.817). He reset the single-season home run record, which he set with nine in 2023, with the 11 home runs in 2025. He also broke the single-season program records for RBI with 56 and counting heading into the MASCAC playoffs.
In his career, he has played in 155 games, compiled a program record 187 hits, a program record 42 doubles, a program record 32 home runs, a program record 164 RBI, and is tied for the program record in hit by pitch with 24.
Burnett, who was most recently named to the ABCA/Rawlings Division III Region 2 First Team and D3baseball.com All-Region First Team, capped his Owls career with his most productive season of his three-year stint with Westfield. The senior utility man batted .410 with 14 home runs, 12 doubles, five triples, and 61 runs batted in, leading the MASCAC with an .856 slugging percentage and 30 extra base hits while finishing top three in the conference ranks in batting average, hits, doubles, triples, RBI, home runs, and on-base percentage.
Burnett set single-season program records in home runs, runs batted in, and total bases while placing second in runs scored. He recorded at least one hit in 34 of 38 games on the year and tallied at least one extra base hit in half of his games played.
