After claiming the MASCAC Tournament title, Ryan Flaherty and Matthew Almeida of Bridgewater State takes home the MASCAC Baseball Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week honors.

Flaherty garnered MASCAC Tournament MVP honors as he batted .636 (7-11) with two doubles, a home run, a sacrifice fly, four walks, three runs and six RBI in three games during the Bears’ tournament title run. Also posted a .688 on base percentage and a 1.091 slugging percentage. Went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, two runs and two RBI in a 16-6 win over Westfield State; 1-for-4 with a double and a walk in a 7-4 victory over Salem State; and 3-for-4 with a home run, a walk, a sacrifice fly, a run and four RBI in a 12-11 improbable championship game triumph over Worcester State. Belted a two-run homer and smacked a walk-off RBI single in a seven-run bottom of the ninth as the Bears’ overcame an 11-5 deficit against the Lancers to capture the tournament title. |

Almeida tossed three scoreless innings of relief to pick up his first collegiate victory in the Bears’ improbable 12-11 MASCAC Tournament championship game win over Worcester State. Gave up just a hit and a walk with one strikeout as the Bears’ overcame an 11-5 deficit with a seven-run bottom of the ninth to win in walk-off fashion. Weekly Report 5/11 |
