MASCAC Announces First Football Weekly Award Winners
In its inaugural season, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the first four winners of the offensive, defensive, special teams and rookie of the week honors.
Westfield, Mass.- In the inaugural season, the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce their first football weekly award honorees.
Offensive Player of the Week
Kevin Bumpus, Worcester St. (Jr., QB, Bridgewater, Mass.) -- Had an outstanding day at the helm for the Lancers passing for a school-record 427 yards with four touchdowns of 66, 7, 23 and 14 yards, respectively and no interceptions in a 34-6 triumph over Anna Maria.
Defensive Player of the Week
Bryan Narcisse, Worcester St. (Jr., DL, Medway, Mass.) -- Narcisse was a force defensively as he collected a game-best 13 tackles (nine solo) to go with seven tackles for a loss (42 yards) and four sacks (34 yards) in a 34-6 victory over Anna Maria.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Rob Giles, Plymouth St. (Jr., K, Derry, N.H.) -- Giles was 4-for-4 on PAT kicks, and booted a 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that put PSU up 31-28. Castleton came back to win, 35-31. Giles also averaged 51.6 yards on kickoffs.
Rookie of the Week
Zach Ziemba, Plymouth St. (Fr., DB, Manchester, N.H.) -- Ziemba made four tackles and a team-high three pass break-ups in 35-31 loss to Castleton.
MASCAC Football Weekly Honor Roll
Offensive
Melikke Van Alstyne, Framingham St. (Sr., RB - Salem, Mass.) -- Van Alstyne set up all four of the Rams TD passes with his carries and was instrumental in helping run the clock down late in the game with a 12 point lead.
Andrew Foglia, Plymouth St. (Sr., RB - Montauk, N.Y.) -- Foglia scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns that turned a 14-7 Castleton lead into a 21-14 PSU lead. Castleton went on to win, 35-31.
Defensive
Tate Doehler, Bridgewater St. (Sr., DE - Lakeville, Mass.) -- Tallied team-best nine tackles- including five for a loss of 17 yards and two sacks - in a 36-7 setback to Salve Regina.
Jordan McDonald, UMass.-Dartmouth (Sr., LB - Brockton, Mass.) -- Tied for the lead for UMass Dartmouth with eight tackles, six of which were unassisted....scored the Corsairs' forst defensive touchdown of the season, returning a fumble 40 yards for a score to give the Corsairs a 12-0 second period lead. Had one tackle for a loss of 19 yards.
Nominated by the participating schools from around the conference, the winners are chosen based on their performance in their respective sport throughout the week.
