Western Connecticut State's McKoy Named Division II/III Gold Helmet Weekly Award Winner
Western Connecticut running back Octavias McKoy have been named the Ray Gallant Insurance New England Football Writers’ Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Division II/III Gold Helmet Award winner for week seven of the 2013 football season.
McKoy made his impact on the ground in record-setting fashion Saturday afternoon in a narrow 54-53 setback to Massachusetts Maritime. The junior, who set four records on the day, was the main source of offensive production for Western Connecticut, as he ran for a school-record 372 yards on 42 carriers (8.9 yards per carry).
He tallied a record five of the Colonials eight touchdowns for 30 total points to mark another record in the books. The Stanford, Conn., native's 372 rushing yards is the most a Division III athlete has racked up this season. McKoy's record setting ways earned him his second consecutive MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week accolade.
With his record setting weekend, McKoy was also named the ECAC Division III Northeast Offensive Co-Player of the Week alongside Steven Wilken from Salve Regina.
McKoy and the Colonials return to the field this weekend with a home match-up against Fitchburg State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
