Bridgewater State's Couch, Mass. Maritime's Wells Named to CoSIDA Football Academic All-District Team
Bridgewater State University junior running back Adam Couch and Massachusetts Maritime junior defensive linemen Hugh Wells have been selected to the 2021 Academic All-District® One Division III Football Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for all-academic honors, a student-athlete must be a starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-December.
Couch currently sports an impressive 3.70 grade point average as he is majoring in economics with a minor in accounting and finance. The Winchendon, Massachusetts product was named to the Dean's List in each of his first two semesters at Bridgewater State and was selected to the MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic Team in 2020.
Couch, who transferred from Assumption College prior to the 2020-2021 academic year, started each of the Bears first nine games this fall before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He carried the ball 167 times for 1,020 yards and 13 touchdowns despite missing most of two games due to the injury, and became the ninth different running back in BSU football history to crack the 1,000-yard rushing barrier for a season.
Wells, who was named to the MASCAC All-Conference team last week, is studying marine transportation with a 3.45 GPA. Last year, he earned a spot on the 2020 MASCAC Fall/Winter All-Academic team.
On the field, Wells finished 2021 with 57 tackles, 37 solo, four sacks, tied for eighth in the league, 13 tackles for loss, third in the league, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries and a pass breakup for his first All-MASCAC selection.
