Salem, Mass. -- Brian Clark, a 2012 graduate of Salem State University and four year member of the Salem State men's basketball program has signed a contract to play Professional Basketball overseas in Portugal. Brian, who left Salem State as the fourth all-tiime Leading Scorer behind the late John Galaris, signed with Galitos-Tley of the LPB, the first division in Portugal. Galitos-Tley is based out of the city of Barreiro, about twenty five minutes south of Lisbon.
In the 2013-14 season, Galitos-Tley missed the postseason by one game and are looking to improve this season, adding four new players, including Clark. Clark, and Galitos-Tley will open up their league play on October 25th. A 2008 graduate of Frontier Regional High School, Brian came to the men's basketball program at Salem State with his twin brother, Dan. Both were major factors in several championships for Salem State, including a run to the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" in the 2008-09 season, as well as an NCAA tournament appearance in 2011-12.
One of the most decorated players ever to play at Salem State and a sure fire Hall of Famer, Brian earned several individual accolades including: (2009 MASCAC Rookie of the Year, 2009-10 All-MASCAC First-Team and two consecutive MASCAC Player of the Year Awards in 2010-11 and 2011-12.) In addition, Brian was named to the NABC's Northeast Region First-Team in 2012.
Salem State Assistant Coach, Dan Viscariello had the chance to catch up with Clark recently in conversation. Clark stated "I have been in Portugal for a little over a month now and it has been great. It is a beautiful country, good people, amazing food and my teammates and coaches have made the transition very easy. Above all, it feels very fulfilling to be on the hardwood again as part of a team continuing my basketball career. In addition, I would like to thank fellow Salem State Alumni and former Assistant Coach, Dorian Bryant, who is now at Babson for all the individual work he has put in with me over the past two years since graduating from Salem State."
Salem State Head Coach Chris Harvey added "Both Brian and Dan are two of the better people we have had come through the program in my tenure. In addition to their playing abilities, both were hard workers, good students, and most importantly, solid citizens. They both come from a great family, and parents, Sandy and Mitch were always in attendance to support. They both set an example and a standard at Salem State that I am hopeful future players are able to emulate. I am extremely proud of both Brian and Dan on all their accomplishments, and it is great to see Brian get a chance to continue his career professionally overseas."
