Bridgewater State Lands Top Seed in the 2026 MASCAC Women's Basketball Tournament
Last season's regular season and tournament champions Bridgewater State seek a repeat as the top seed in this week's MASCAC Women's Basketball Tournament which begins on Wednesday with first round action.
The Bears claimed back-to-back titles with a 13-1 mark in MASCAC play. Sophie Bradbury averaged 11.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while collecting 79 assists, 45 steals and eight blocks in her 25 games played. Her assists are the fifth most in the MASCAC this season.
Grabbing the other first round bye with the second seed is Framingham State. The Rams were 11-3 to conclude the regular season. 2025 Rookie of the Year Faith Greene followed up her award winning year averaging 17 points and 8.9 rebounds both top five of the conference while shooting 46.4 percent from the field with 22 assists, 24 steals and 15 blocks.
Westfield State earns hosting duties with the third seed. The Owls finished at 9-5 in conference action. Tavi Williams was a solid defender for the team, averaging 9.7 rebounds a game with 139 on the defensive boards. She also had 85 steals, 62 assists, eight blocks and averaged 7.4 points per contest.
Getting the final hosting responsibilities is Salem State. The Vikings came in at 8-5 in MASCAC competition this season. Ernidia Goncalves was a walking double-double for the squad, averaging 14.5 points and 11.4 rebounds per game while tallying 92 steals, 39 assists and 21 blocks on the year.
Rounding out this year's tournament field are Worcester State and Anna Maria with the fifth and sixth seed, respectively. The Lancers look to Lena Waldron for their tournament run after she averaged 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 72.7 percent from the free throw line with 48 steals and 22 assists. For the AMCATS, they enter their first MASCAC Tournament with Arianna Gonzalez leading the way after she averaged 11.6 points, 6.1 rebounds plus 91 assists, 86 steals and 12 blocks while shooting a lights out 81.7 percent from the charity stripe.
During the 2025 MASCAC Women's Basketball Championship, Bridgewater State defeated Framingham State 76-65 to take home the tournament title and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
